Final Checks

Congratulations! You’ve done all the building! Now we just need to do a few quick checks.

Double Check Servos

The most likely thing that needs fixing at this point is if any servo extensions came loose. Follow each servo cable (2 - 7), and make sure the extension is firmly seated on the servo cable. We don’t need to check servo 1 because it doesn’t have an extension.

Then re-check that all the servo cables are correctly and fully seated on the new BottangoSolar board.

Back To Working Order

Carefully place Captain Cogbrow back on the stand. If you want to massage the visibility of the cable bundle, do so carefully so you don’t unseat any servo extensions.

Plug in both the original power supply into the Bottango Solar board as well as a USB cable from the board to your computer. When both are in, you should see a pulsing green light in the center of the board, and a yellow pulsing light at the top of the board. The yellow pulsing light will have a slightly different pulse pattern than the green light.

Never use any power supply with Captain Cogbrow besides the one that came with your kit, or a replacement from Bottango.

If you don’t have both a green pulsing light in the center and a yellow pulsing light at the top when you plug power in, press the “reboot” button underneath the three status lights. Reach out to Bottango for support if you still don’t have any lights after rebooting.

Remember that the Status Lights page describes what all the possible light combinations can mean if you want to cross reference.

Connect to Bottango

In Bottango, either create a new “Captain Cogbrow” project, or open an existing one. If you create a new project, you do not need to re-calibrate, and you can use the existing calibration you’ve already made. Changing the circuit board does not change the servo calibration at all.

Bottango should automatically find and connect to the Bottango Solar board. However, you may need to update it’s firmware. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Trouble connecting or updating? If you can’t solve the problem by retrying / restarting, checking cables, etc. Reach out to support / ask for help on the Bottango Discord.

Once you’re connected and up to date, play the demo animation. All 7 servos should move as expected (but note, audio won’t come out of the animatronic speakers yet).

Any one servo not moving as expected?

  • Check all the cables for that servo, and make sure nothing is loose, and everything is correctly seated for that servo cable on the Bottango Solar board.

All servos not moving?

  • Make sure you have a green pulsing light in the center of the board, and you are connected in Bottango. Double check you oriented the servo cables correctly on the circuit board. Reach out to support for more help after double checking.

Hey! Where’s My Music?

We’ve done all this work, and the audio is still coming out of the computer, not the speakers I just hooked up. What gives?

That’s expected at this point. So far, we’ve just gotten back to the standard functionality, but now using the new Pro hardware.

In the rest of this guide we’ll learn how to use the new functionality we added, including set up audio on the speakers, exporting animations for playback without a computer, using the animation trigger buttons, and wireless control.

Read on to start with adding audio playback on the animatronic!
